Happy Solemnity of the Assumption!
Today is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It’s also the quietest day of the year in Rome. Despite what you may have heard, Rome does not shut down in August. Lots of the locals are on vacation, and many shops and restaurants are closed, some for the month, many just for a week or two, but it is still possible to enjoy the city. It’s literally my favorite day of the year in Rome.
Here are some beautiful Assumption links:
Mary’s Veil in Assisi, displayed just twice a year.
The Dormition, burial, and Assumption of Mary.
Solemnity bells from Saint Peter’s Basilica.
Pilgrimage Marathon
In one week I begin my Pilgrimage Marathon. I’ll be leading 8 groups across 13 countries over the next 17 weeks. While most of the trips sold out long ago, I do still have a couple spots for the Holy Land and Jordan, Fatima to Lourdes, and a couple of the lower cabins on my Danube River Cruise pilgrimage.
Speaking of sell outs… my April Holy Land and Jordan Pilgrimage sold out in under 20 minutes. My fastest sell out ever. I’m doing just one more 2024 Holy Land Pilgrimage in November. There’s already a list of 200 people eagerly awaiting that email, so those 30 spots will probably go quickly as well — but, as aways paid Substack subscribers and Patrons get the first shot.
