In this issue, paid subscribers get an embarrassing Lenten story and also have a first shot at joining two upcoming pilgrimages before they go live to everyone else.

Coming up in Rome

Holy Week begins Sunday!

For the first time ever, I’m leading a Holy Week Pilgrimage. In addition to Palm Sunday and Easter at the Vatican, we are also participating in my favorite night of the year, Holy Thursday and the Altars of Repose. The churches in Rome go all out in decorating the chapels. Many churches stay open until midnight, with the faithful going from church to church to church. Here are some photos from a previous year.

And here’s a whole run down of what to expect in Rome over the coming days.

Music for Holy Week

My dad has an album called The Holy Land Project. Thirty-three songs he wrote after a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The Holy Week songs are my favorite.

His music is now available to stream for free on Apple Music and Spotify. You can also order a physical CD here to support his work.

Here’s a sample of Dominus Flevit:

I have a story…

How’s your Lent going?

Several years ago, I was leading a lenten pilgrimage to Rome with Lino Rulli. Group travel during Lent is tricky. It’s not always easy to balance the amount of fun and excitement that comes with our pilgrimages with the penitential season — winery visits, gelato tastings, and chocolate factory tours are hardly a sacrifice.
